Debate FAQs
Do we take part in Intervarsity competitions?
Yes! Every year we enter students who are interested into the Irish Times Debating Competition in Sem 1. Keep an eye on our socials notifications of other intervarsity events throughout the year.
Do I need debating experience?
Not at all! We encourage any student to volunteer as a speaker at our weekly debates. Come along and joi the audience for a few debates to get a feel for it, and try out our beginner workshops to build up your confidence and skills.
What types of events does the society run?
We run weekly debates, which are a mix of casual and more serious topics, beginner friendly workshops and a mix of other fun events and collabs such as the Mock Dáil with Pol Soc

1... Quantities of Speech

Go!

Step 1: Find a speech you like, from a tv show, from a song, from a musical, from a film, from a politician or someone else.

The event starts @7pm in CG12 (Henry Gratton Building).

Step 2: Regret all your life choices.

Step 2: Make that speech!

Step 3: cry CELEBRATE cry

You can of course have a background on the projector.  Example: The House of Commons; Scenery Picture.

The winner will be voted on by attendees and will receive a whopping prize of €20 euros.

Pizza and other food will be there too, the only real reason to ever go to any society's events, as well.

Go n-éirí an bóthar libh go léir!
