Our intervarsities competiton is our most important competition of the year where all our club members can test themselves by competing against different universities. The competition is held in Lisnasharragh Leisure Centre, by Queens University, in Belfast. We plan on meeting to leave for Belfast at 9:30am in the U building, getting a bus to Connolly station, then going from Connolly to Belfast grand central. We will be staying in the Travelodge in Belfast Central, a 5 minute walk from Belfast Grand Central Train Station. As we have recently doubled our club members since last year, this is our largest group that we have going to a university event in the last 5 years. Each competitor is allowed to enter a maximum of 2 individual events. We are allowed to enter 2 teams per relay event. All 50m, 100m and relays will be swum as Heats & Finals. All 200m events are heat-declared winners (HDW). Only our swim coaching or water polo players can enter this event.

DCU Swimming and Water Polo Club was created in 2011 with a mission to provide an exceptional service for water based activities to students in DCU. We are very proud of our achievements to date have ambitious plans to grow the club in the future to develop 3rd level swimming in Ireland! All of our teachers are fully qualified, leading practitioners of water based exercise who are licensed and insured to instruct by Swim Ireland. In addition to this, the majority of our student coaches are current sport science students!
The club has improved rapidly over the years, with our competitive team increasing and performing better than ever at competitions. We train in the 25m pool on the Glasnevin Campus (DCU Sports Complex) from Monday to Friday throughout the college year. Our coaches and teachers cater for all levels of ability, from beginners right up to the elite standard!
Our group swim teaching lessons are back for its second semester after our massive success last year! These sessions are for individuals who wish to learn how to swim from scratch! These classes are available for all club members who do not yet have the ability to join our coaching squad (minimum 200m freestyle swimming) or for individuals who want to want to develop their basic swimming ability.
In addition to this, we are excited to announce that we have recently re-established our water polo sector. If anyone would like to get involved in this we train from 9-10pm in National Aquatic Centre (NAC), on Thursday evenings.
If you are an individual who wants to learn how to swim, or if you want to enhance your swimming performance and or play water polo to compete for DCU while having fun, this is the club for you!
