Are you interested in the stock markets, finance and investments? Are you interested to learn about some of the largest money markets in the world and how they can work for YOU? The DCU Investment society is dedicated to providing hands on experience with investments, stock research and opportunities in the world of trading, investment banking and finance whilst supporting a vibrant, fun atmosphere through events and nights out!
The Student Managed Fund (SMF) is a programme and competition ran by Goodbody’s stockbrokers. It gives students an opportunity to form funds consisting of fund managers and student analysts. Students will compete to research equities and ultimately find the most profitable investment opportunities to present actual investment professionals from Goodbody stockbrokers while learning from the best of the best about key investing strategies. The SMF is really an amazing opportunity to meet real investors and stockbrokers, to gain insight and know-how whilst developing both skills and fostering great connections through mentorship meetings and it's fantastic social nights and mixers!
The Investment Society organised a number of key events last year that will both educate you on potential career paths and help you in obtaining an Intra/Graduate programme. Events included talks from Goodbody’s Stockbrokers both on campus and in their D4 office, talks from the CFA society of Ireland ands trips to various trading floors and trading desks in firms such as SIG to meet and network with traders and various financial professionals.
Whilst providing practical events and training with our various resources (e.g Bloomberg Terminal, Bitsilk Investments), our Society also regarded for its social events. Last year the investment society organised 2 FREE BAR events with everything on us. There will be good social mixers, as an opportunity to make friends and talk to those with similar interests!
Investments serves many purposes across campus and aid students with their graduate programme applications . We as a society recently donated €2,500 to Tribe Charity (compliments of Goodbody Stockbrokers) , a charity dedicated to supporting and advocating for good mental health across Ireland. We are committed to helping out and providing other aspects to our society. Charity and Volunteering work is crucial on a CV to standout and show that you want to make a difference as an individual.
