Event Proposal: Dos and Donuts – Career Insights from Legal Professionals

Organised by:

European Law Students' Association (ELSA)

Event Overview:

ELSA is proposing to host a professional development event titled “Dos and Donuts”, featuring a practising solicitor and barrister who will speak about their respective career paths and share valuable insights for aspiring legal professionals.

Both speakers previously participated in this event last year and were very well received by attendees. This year’s session will expand on their experiences, offering further reflection on the key “dos” that helped them progress in their careers, as well as the advice they wish they had received in the early stages of their professional journeys.

Event Objectives:

• Provide ELSA members with access to practising legal professionals

·       Highlight the practical steps involved in pursuing a career as a solicitor or barrister

·       Offer honest, experience-based advice for

those entering the legal profession

·       Encourage engagement and informal

discussion in a relaxed setting

Logistics:

·       Format: Panel-style talk followed by Q&A

·       Speakers: One solicitor and one barrister

(returning from last year’s event)

·       Target Audience: ELSA members and law

students interested in legal careers

·       Catering: Light refreshments – donuts will

be provided to create a welcoming, informal

atmosphere

·       Venue: [Insert proposed venue]

·       Date/Time: [Insert proposed date and time]

Justification:

This event aligns with ELSA’s mission to provide educational, professional, and networking opportunities for members. By featuring experienced legal professionals in an accessible format, it supports career development and bridges the gap between legal education and practice. The return of last year's speakers highlights the value and success of this event format.

We kindly request approval for this event, including permission to serve light refreshments.
