Mixed Martial Arts FAQs
I can't find the minor sports hall/handball alley
Walk through the gates after being let in by a member of the gym staff. Walk to the end of the long corridor, through the double doors with glass panes then turn right and walk to the end of the hall for the hallball alley. The minor hall is the first door to the right through the double doors (where the rock climbing wall is)
I don't have a gym membership. How do I get inside the gym to the classes
Before class, speak to the staff member at the desk for the gym. Say you're from the MMA club, and if they can let you in. Gates opposite the desk will then open down to where we train
I feel nervous before my first session, could I talk to someone before?
Definitely! Either email the club or text our instagram and we can talk to you about any questions you have. Everyone was a beginner once, and everyone in the team is here to make your first session an enjoyable experience that leaves you wanting to come back for more!
What does a typical session look like?
Our grappling and kickboxing classes generally follow the format of - Warm up - Showcase and practice the technique of the day - Either pad/heavy bag works for kickboxing or positional rounds for grappling If you're not sure what "pad/heavy bag work" is or "positional rounds", don't worry, anyone is happy to explain if you ask us!
Is MMA safe?
Absolutely. All of our kickboxing/grappling classes are monitored closely by our coaches, health safety officer and experienced members to watch out for your safety
Do I have to fight/compete?
Not at all. Many of our team members train for their own fitness, skills, and, most importantly, fun! Nobody is ever pressured to compete/fight if they don't want to.
Is equipment provided?
Yes, boxing gloves are provided for our kickboxing classes.
What should I bring before my first class
T-shirt, shorts, a water bottle and a positive mindset ready to learn, make new friends and pick up a great hobby! (Sliders for stepping off the mats and mouthguards are optional)
Do I have to spar?
Sparing is optional for all members, and there's no pressure to spar or do any activity if you're not comfortable with at anytime in the club.
Do I need any experince?
Nope, not at all! Many of our team are beginners. Our club welcomes all experience levels, especially beginners.
How often do is training? What times is it at?
Training is 4 times a week, and times are posted on our Instagram
Where do we train?
We train in the minor sports hall and the handball alley located in the gym.
