DCU Canoe Clubs 2nd river trip of the year will be on the 30th of November on the lovely river Liffey! We hope to see you there and get you onto some moving water! Keep an eye out on our socials for details.

You have to have attended at least one of our pool sessions for this trip unless you already have your Canoeing Ireland Kayak Skills Level 2 award. 

Full rental gear and qualified Canoeing Ireland instructors are included in the ticket price of only €10. Sign-up is required! More details on where to get your ticket will follow. 

Make sure to bring layers: Thermals or an old t-shirt, swimwear, and shoes to get wet! If you have a Wetsuit bring yours but if not we can provide you with a wetsuit. Don't forget warm clothes for afterwards!!

Meeting point: at our Containers on the Glasnevin Campus beside the library car park, we should be easy to spot with the kayaks! Hope to see you there, if you have any further questions don't hesitate to reach out by email or Instagram.

Bunmahon Part 2

Following the success from our previous Bunmahon trip, we have decided to make a return! That's right! Bunmahon pt. 2!

We will be returning to the lovely 'Greenway and Copper Coast Hostel' right next to the waterfront to make it as easy as possible for hauling around all the gear for a cheeky bit of kayak-surfing!

We will be leaving Friday afternoon (15th of November) from the DCU Sports Grounds (for anyone who's been attending the pool sessions it'll be the same pickup spot) and coming back Sunday evening (17th of November) to DCU. The trip will cost 50 euro, which covers:

-Accommodation

-Travel

-Kayaking Gear

-Memories to be made (and/or forgotten!)

What to bring for sure:

-Wetsuit if you have one (if not one will be provided)

-Warm clothes!

-Some spare change for the food shop/pub/meals eaten out

-Fancy dress (keep an eye on our socials!)

-good humor and craic!

We will stop on the way down for a big food shop (and beverages), but maybe bring some *hydration* for the bus up, if you want. We have a Dress-up Theme for the Saturday night party where the theme will be announced closer to the date!

We are sure everyone is gonna look sexy as hell and tear up the Bunmahon strip in whatever costumes we decide on!

Fresher’s trip Malahide

On Saturday, the 5th of October, DCU Canoe Club will be holding our annual Freshers Trip to Malahide. We will meet at 10 am at the container behind the Library (Container Location Link HERE ). We plan to leave for Malahide at 10:30 am sharp to be in Malahide at 11:00, so we need everyone to be bang on time; otherwise, you may be left behind. We will provide lifts to and from Malahide from the container on the day and should be back at the container around 17:30

What should I bring?

  • All we ask you to bring for the water is a pair of swimming shorts, a rash vest (or old t-shirt) and booties (or old runners).
  • Boats, paddles, wetsuits, cags, buoyancy aids and helmets will be provided to you on the day. 
  • You should also bring a towel, a spare pair of clothes and a bag to hold everything.
  • Some coffee/tea may also be excellent for after the cold water

You do not need any experience kayaking before this trip but you have to have been to at least one pool session beforehand! We will teach all the basics to get you going and play a few chill games that utilise the skills we teach on the day. We ask that you only come if you are a capable swimmer and have paid your membership fee.

We will meet at our containers behind the Glasnevin Library at 9:00am on the Friday to get our bus to the competitions! Returning on Sunday evening!

With 3 days of events, nights out and meeting other college paddlers its sure to be a great weekend!

Last river trip of 2022! On Saturday the 3rd of December will we be making our way up to strawberry beds and practicing some of our skills learned at the pool sessions and past river trips. Its recommended that you've been to a pool session or two before coming on a river trip so you get the basics first. Meeting at the DCU containers at 9:00am on 3/12/22, make sure to bring plenty of warm clothes for after and old shoes to wear in the water or booties if you have them. A wet suit will be provided if you don't have one.

DCU Canoe Clubs first trip of 2022! Meeting at the hopefully sunny Malahide Estuary at 12:30 on Sunday the 16th of January. We will be building on the foundations of kayaking shown during the first semester as well as getting used to the cold water! Keep an eye out on our socials for details.

Don't need any special gear; just bring layers: Thermals(not cotton), swimwear, and shoes to get wet! If you have a Wetsuit all the better (as ours will be limited)!

Don't forget warm clothes for afterwards.

Meeting point: in Malahide  53.452430406408254, -6.15756459254107 near the water, we should be easy to spot with the kayaks! Hope to see you there, if you have any further questions don't hesitate to give anyone on the committee a shout.

Meeting at the hopefully sunny Malahide Estuary for 11am on Sunday the 31st of October. We will be covering the basics of kayaking and teaching basic skills and getting some experience on moving water as well as starting to get used to water outside of the pool! Keep an eye out on our socials for sign up details.

They will be talking all things plastic and Irish marine pollution and will be filling us in on their new amazing Irish Campaign 'think before you flush'

This event is perfect for all who are lovers of the ocean and are keen to become more sustainable to save our fabulous planet! You won't want to miss it.
