It was a surprisingly sunny day with calm waters at the National Rowing Center as DCU Rowing Club lined up at Inniscarra Lake for the annual University Rowing Championships – a day of firsts, fierce competition, and fantastic performances on the national stage.

Kicking off the morning’s events, our Women’s Novice Quad made their 2K open-water debut – and what a debut it was! With Jessica Moffitt steering from the coxswain seat, the crew of Laura Wakeham (Bow), Sarajane McNally (2nd seat), Ruby Belle Fitzpatrick (3rd), and Jennifer Lynch (Stroke) powered through the field with the help of some overpriced Oakleys and determination pushing them on.

Settling into their rhythm early, they held strong throughout, finishing in a commendable 5th place. A brilliant first showing in a stacked field – hats off to the University of Limerick for taking the win and to all competing universities for a thrilling contest at the National Rowing Centre.

As the afternoon heat picked up, so did the intensity. DCU’s India Wall took to the water in the Women’s Club 1x. An experienced rower, having rowed last year as a novice, anticipation was high for her first 2025 outing in DCU colours, and she delivered with a superb performance.

With every race, our athletes continue to grow in strength and confidence. We are proud of the entire squad’s efforts and excited to see what lies ahead as the 2025 season continues.
