Separate Church and State

Starts Thu 28th Jan 2021 at 18:00
Ends at 19:00
Cost FREE
Type VIRTUAL Event

This Thursday at 6pm, Willy Cummins will be giving an introduction to his recent pamphlet co-authored with Deirdre Wadding and Clr Gino Boyle which makes the case for the separation of Church and State.

Responsibility rests “mainly with the fathers of their children and their immediate families” suggests the Commission of Investigation on the Mother and Baby Homes. For women Ireland was no doubt was a harsh, judgemental, misogynistic society – but this completely misses how such a society developed. It misses that it was encouraged and sustained by the authorities of both State and Church.

Cut the fees - With Richard B Barrett TD

Starts Thu 1st Oct 2020 at 19:00
Ends at 20:30
Cost FREE
Type VIRTUAL Event

Students in Ireland pay some of the highest third level fees in Europe - the cost of education has skyrocketed over the last decade with serious implications for access.

This year the issue of fees is especially topical, with a huge emphasis on online learning and far less time on campus - students have rightly called for rebates, reductions and fee remission. We believe that education should always be free and accessible to those who want it. Education is a public good, it must be well funded and protected from commodification.

Join us to discuss how we can build cross campus movements of students and staff to win free education for everyone and universities for all!

Speakers

?Richard Boyd Barrett - People Before Profit TD for Dun-Laoghaire

Clara McCormack -  Student Activist

Paul Loughran - Former VP of Queen's University
