"Our members enjoyed a great trip to Leinster House on Wednesday 16th November courtesy of Deputy Paul McAuliffe, DCU's local TD in Dublin North-West. We did a tour of Leinster House, including seeing a vote take place in the Dáil Chamber, and getting into the Seanad Chamber. We then had dinner in the Member's Restaurant, followed by an evening in the Dáil Bar. "
"As you may or may not know, Enactus culminates in a national competition in May of each year. The winner of the national competition goes on to represent Ireland and their college against every 32 other national winners in the Enactus World Cup. Winners of the World Cup receive a $50,000 grant to support the further development of their projects. This year, University College Cork were the winners of the stage and were entrusted with the honour of representing Ireland in Puerto Rico. The Enactus World Cup this year was the first in person World Cup in since 2019. It was an absolute honour to be invited and support our national champions, UCC. Huge congratulations to University College Cork for placing within the top 16 of Enactus groups worldwide! That is an outstanding achievement! We were honoured to receive a special mention at the World Cup for winning last year's Global Youth Empowerment AI Hackathon by KPMG, Microsoft and UNESCO. The World Cup was definitely a once in a lifetime opportunity. The Enactus DCU team is proud to say we are more bursting with energy than ever after seeing the wonderful possibilities of social enterprise within Enactus."

"Congratulations to our first tournament winner of 22/23: @ciarantm96!The Poker Gods graced Ciarán on Monday, with several big hands falling into his hands - including knocking out the chairman with #DeathByQuads at the final table. We had a very successful first tournament of 22/23 on Monday night, with 15 players hitting the felt for what turned out to be a fun evening of good poker.Next week marks the start of our new Monday Tournament Series in Cuilín KA113 (this will be our new regular venue for game nights, due to an increase in membership this year. It is much more roomy, so hopefully we won't be falling over chairs trying to get around!) at 5pm.Registration opens at 4.30pm, and will be open until the end of the break at 6.45pm, so if you can't make it for 5, don't fret, there's still time for you to jump in.The series will tally both attendance and results over the course of the series - with you earning more points the more you play, and the higher you finish. At the end of the semester, our Top 16 players will play in the Series Final, where there will be prizes to be won. We may even break out the proper table for that! The series games will be capped at 5 tables, due to equipment limitations. So we hope to see you on Monday from 4.30pm in KA113. Until then, as always...May the Flop be with you!Shane MurphyChairpersonDCU Poker"
"We launched our campaign calling on Minister for Transport Eamon Ryan to provide DCU with a 24/7 Bus link to the city centre!DCU is the largest college in Dublin without a direct public transport link to the city centre 24 hours a day.Students need safe and cheap transport links from the city centre back to their accommodation around DCU late at night.By making the 11 bus route a 24/7 service, students returning to Drumcondra and Glasnevin would have safe, cheap and environmentally-friendly transport late at night.Sign our petition at our Recruitment Stand, join us today and follow our social media accounts for updates on this vital campaign!"
"The Griffith Avenue Mile returned today with hundreds of athletes across all ages taking on the renowned course. The race first took place back in 1983 and was known as the 'Dublin Straight Mile'. That year it was won by South African-born American Sydney Maree, in a blistering 3.49.30. Leading Irish athletes such as Eamonn Coghlan were in the field that day, and Ray Flynn ran strongly to finish third. The race was revived in 2019 but has been postponed ever since due to the Covid-19 pandemic. This year it made a welcome return, bigger and better than before. DCU are one of the proud sponsors of the race and being so close to all of our campuses, a number of our athletes who are more used to running the metric mile or longer donned the blue and yellow singlets for the first time this season. Men's captain Michael Murphy who is better known as a 5000m runner stepped down in distance to see what he could do. The result? An impressive time of 4:18, good enough for second place in the race for the Tullamore AC and Joe Ryan coached athlete. Michael finished behind Hiko Tonosa of Dundrum South Dublin who recently competed at the European Championships over 10,000m.Paul Morgan ran well to finish in 12th in 4:46, while Barry Clavin was 21st in 5:04. Training is back in full this week ahead of a busy year ahead. All training in DCU Sports Grounds unless otherwise stated.
