About Sappho Society

Are you a queer woman (or wlw/nmlw/nmlnm*) who is tired of not having exclusive wlw spaces?

Welcome to SapphoSoc, a society made by queer women; for queer women.

  • We recognise how challenging it can be to be a woman in the world today and want to provide space for women loving women to be themselves and meet people who may have similar backgrounds.

But, what do we offer?

  • Friendship/connection.

We know it can be difficult making new friends and getting to know people around campus who could have something in common with you, especially when your friends are in different courses or on a different campus. Our daytime and evening events across both main campuses are there for members to spend time with likeminded others without judgement or bias.

  •  Safety/community.

Being out and about can be nerve wracking for anyone whether it's daytime or a night out. Making friends within Sapphosoc and going out as a group can provide safety in numbers and lessen anxiety in new places.

  • Events:

Our plan is to arrange daytime and evening events throughout the year to accommodate all members and commuters with easy going cafe mornings, study sessions, fundays (indoor and outdoor), nights out and so much more, allowing members to explore their interests and broaden their horizons.

Sapphosoc is a place for wlw/nmlw/nmlnm* to make friends and build meaningful connections through hobbies or over a coffee. We strive to make space in the world for an underrepresented group of people and allow them to be themselves, surrounded by people like them!

Sapphosoc is a safe space of exclusivity for queer women* to be themselves and be the majority for once!

*wlw - women loving women, nmlw - non male loving women, nmlnm - non male loving non male
