Redbrick’s Annual General Meeting is taking place for the election of the incumbent committee. All positions within the committee will be voted upon at this event.

Today we’ll cover DevOps, leveraging previous hackerclubs to piece together how to implement a robust workflow for your more ambitious projects.

This week, Dell will be joining us to give a talk on interview skills – an important aspect of applying for jobs. Juliana and Naomi will be instructing us on tips and tricks to impress your interviewers, and secure the job you want!

This week’s Hackerclub will revisit the wonders of shell scripting in this hugely anticipated sequel. We will go over the basics as well as some more advanced techniques.

For this event, Redbrick’s System Administrator will be giving a talk on the topic of system administration, the skills involved and the competencies required in preparation for the upcoming root exam.

For this event, Demonware’s Max Vizard will be holding a workshop for MicroPython. A number of programmable ESP8266 boards will be provided for members to try their hand at MicroPython.

For this event, Redbrick’s own members will have an opportunity to give a short talk on a specific topic that interests them, without going into too much detail.

Cian Butler will be giving a talk about data encryption. Keep your data secure with confidential computing.

For this event, Ben McMahon will be giving a talk about problem solving, how to tackle problems efficiently, and not buckle under pressure. 

For this event, Dominic Conor, Systems Administrator of Redbrick, will be giving a talk on the future of Redbrick and the services that he intends to add down the line.

For this event, James Hackett, the chairperson of Redbrick, will be giving a talk on Redbrick as a whole as it is currently, including services, events and committee shenanigans.

For this event, Dr. Michael Scriney, the president of Redbrick, will be giving a talk on Machine Learning.

For this event, John Looney will be giving a talk on his career experience at Google, Meta and Reddit.

This year, TUD, DCU and UCD's Computer Science Societies have gotten together to organise an Intervarsity Ball in The Westbury Hotel in Dublin City.

Students from all three societies are welcome to attend, and the theme for this event is Glitz and Glamour, so get out your finest!

This week's Hackerclub will cover the basics of writing scripts to scape websites to gather useful data.

Redbrick will be hosting some rapid-fire talks from several committee members this week. Talks will range from humorous to informative.

This event will consist of an introduction to satellite data transmission, and amateur radio's role in this hobby. There will also be a demonstration of how to intercept satellite radio signals, with examples of the end results of intercepting these signals.

Redbrick Emergency General Meeting for the election of a new System Administrator. Applicants will need to have passed a Root Exam, administered by Dominic Connor.

A fun talk on projects that can be done with a Raspberry Pi computer ranging from practical networking to just plain cool.

A chance for all members to show off their desk/room setups, and maybe compete for a prize. All submissions welcome!

An introductory session to the world of Docker and containers. We will cover the fundamentals and go through some examples.

Redbrick will be holding a competition for virtual prizes based around designing something new in the classic ‘brick’ template.

Redbrick will be welcoming members back with a handheld console-based event. Member are encouraged to bring their own and participate in co-op or versus games.

An introductory session on Object Oriented Programming (OOP) in Python to hit the ground running this semester.

A session to prepare for exams and ask any questions you might have about any topics you are struggling with.

Planning to open-source your project once you’re finished college? That’s great! But, there are a few things you probably need to plan for in advance. On Wednesday the 10th of March, recent DCU graduate (and Redbrick alum) James McDermott will chat about the trials and tribulations of open sourcing a university-level project and how you can learn from his experience to roadmap your way to open source success!

This week's event is a talk about Inclusive Engineering given by Tom Shaw. Tom has worked in the Tech Industry for many years and has worked at places such as Riot Games, Citibank and Demonware. He will be talking about the current level of diversity within the tech industry, the importance of diversity and how we can can make it more inclusive.

Redbrick are teaming up with Arista once again to bring you their coding challenge. Students of all skills levels are invited to take part in the virtual competition and prizes will be given to the top 5 winners. Participants will have unrestricted access to the internet, and a choice of language from Python3, Java 8 or C++14.

Its that time of year again! UKIEPC is happening this Saturday from 11 am to 4 pm. UKIEPC is a coding competition hosted by universities across Ireland and the UK which programmers of all levels can enter. The languages you can use is Java, C, C++ and Python. This year the competition is being held remotely and you can only enter individually. Don't forget about the prizes for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place! This year the DCU Hub is sponsored by Mastercard. What is git? Git is a version control tool that you not only use in college but in the real world too. In 3rd and 4th year of CASE, git is required for your projects. So it is very important you understand and know how to best use version control. Our awesome secretary, chill, will guide you through the minefield that is Git!

Present by Hugh Holbrook, this talk addresses the challenges of designing system and distributed systems software for modern scaled-out cloud networks. In this environment, network reliability at a device and system level is paramount, and performance, security, and visibility are critical. The talk highlights some of the hard software problems of this environment and the techniques that Arista is using to tackle them.

Hugh Holbrook leads the development and testing of the platform and system software at Arista Networks. At Arista since 2005, he has led the development of many of the foundations of Arista's EOS. Before Arista, he worked at Cisco and played a key role in the software and hardware evolution of the Catalyst 4500. He is the inventor of Source-Specific Multicast (SSM), chaired the IETF working group that standardized it, and has authored multiple RFCs including the PIM-SM protocol spec. He holds eight patents in networking, systems, and hardware design.
