DCU Drama are working in collaboration with the Irish Blood Transfusion Service to host a Blood Drive on Glasnevin Campus. 

Everyone who donated blood will automatically be entered into a raffle! 

The lack of blood donors is a serious issue in Ireland and we hope to encourage students, first time and long time donors to give blood!

An event where the committee will be able to relax, chat and discuss their roles on the committee and give advice to aspiring DCU Drama committee members.

DCU Drama proudly presents our Intervarsities piece “Teen Beach Movie” based on the film, adapted by Kate Byrne ???

We will be submitting the piece to the 2024 Musical Theatre Intervarsities which is taking place in Mullingar on March 23rd. The cast and crew have been working tirelessly since the beginning of the semester and are ready to take the stage and represent DCU at a national level ?

Teen Beach Movie” follows the adventures of Brady and Mack, two surfers who find themselves magically transported into Brady’s favourite 1960s beach party film, “Wet Side Story.” As they navigate this retro world, they encounter a cast of colourful characters, including bikers and surfers, all caught up in a rivalry between the biker gang and the surfer group. Brady and Mack must find a way to return home while also trying to keep the movie’s plot on track.

Members of Drama and MPS will come together and learn all about acting in front of a camera from two very experienced students. As there is a lot of crossover with our members, and our events sometimes clashing, this is a great way for the members to enjoy a taste of both societies.

This event is for members to get up and sing a song that they wouldn't usually sing. It is the same concept as a normal Open Mic, people can still do their own performances and are free to perform in whatever way they choose, it's just all for a bit of fun!

On the 21st/22nd/23rd of Novmeber. DCU Drama will perform their semester one play 'The Snapper' by Roddy Doyle.

Cabaret is a variety show in which members can showcase their talents. We will have a variety of acts such as singing, dancing, monologues, spoken word and short extracts from member written plays.

This a charity event for our charity partner The Irish Sepsis Foundation. All ticket sales will be donated to this charity.

All members are welcome to our table quiz. We will be dividing everyone into teams of roughly 4 to 6 and putting them head to head to answer questions created by our subcommittee

We will get members together in a room and watch ‘A Chorus Line’ together as we will be putting it on in second semester and it might give people a push to audition. We will provide pizza for members to enjoy!

The six shows and other events of the year will be announced and a first year rep will be elected to the committee. Come along and see what drama is all about. 

Our New Members Mixer is a chance for all of our new members (or members to be!) to come join our committee and current members for a night of fun, games and lots of showtunes! It really isn't a night you want to miss! We hope to see you on Monday at 6:30pm in SA106. Bring all your friends, it will be a night to remember!

DCU Drama presents: ‘The Addams Family’

‘In it’s typical creepy, kooky, mysterious and spooky fashion, the ghoulish Addams family is visiting the graveyard for an annual gathering of all family members, living, dead, and undecided, to celebrate what it is to be an Addams. However, the family encounter an unforeseen obstacle when Wednesday decides to introduce her new “normal” boyfriend Lucas to the family. In protest, Uncle fester enlists the help of the Addams ancestors to call an end to the young buddy romance. As Wednesday admits that she is falling in love, Morticia, Gomez and Pugsly, worry about her changing ways. As the families of Wednesday and Lucas come together for dinner one fateful evening, chaos ensues and the two families find themselves admitting deep secrets and coming together in ways the would’ve never imagined’ 

An event where the committee will be able to relax, chat and discuss their roles on the committee and give advice to aspiring DCU Drama committee members. There will also be a small amount of food available for people to nibble on while they chat.

Join DCU Drama as we present you with performances from members of our society and other societies in a cabaret style showcase, all in aid of The Alzheimers Society of Ireland ! Taking place in the venue, we’ll have songs, dances, comedy, and even a sneak preview of our Inters piece ‘Tick… Tick… Boom!’ 

Members will join in teams of up to five to answer seven themed rounds of questions! Prizes will be available for the winners

Taking place in The Cat and Cage in Drumcondra, our first open mic of the semester is not one to be missed! Sing a song, recite some poetry, give us some stand up, tell a joke, a funny story, a sad story! All are welcome, come on down to our wonderful event, you won't wanna miss it!

Members of Drama will listen to our Brand Design Officer, Liam O’Keefe, talk about the process of designing a poster for a drama show, while taking us through the process of one he has completed in the last semester. Then, members will be asked to design a poster based on a show Drama had run last semester and share their thought process at the end of the workshop.

On the 23rd and 24th of November DCU Drama will perform their Semester 1 Play 'Little Women' by Louisa May Alcott adapted for stage by Peter Clapham

Members of both Drama and Sober will come together to do casual performances of songs, poetry, dancing and much more. Anyone and everyone can come and show their hidden talents.

Sober Society will be manning a table making mocktails for the event.

This week, DCU Drama and Dance are teaming up to bring you an Addams Family Dance Workshop!! All levels of dance experience are welcome, new or old!

It’s at 6:30 in the Hive on GLA, bring your best dancing shoes!

Fringe is back!

DCU Drama is delighted to announce that our Fringe Fest will take place on November 3rd in E223 on St Pat’s Campus!! Fringe is a wonderful opportunity for actors, writers and performers to showcase their talents in a low pressure environment where all are welcome! We’ll have songs, poems, and a full length play written by Hannah Leonard! Come along to experience student theatre at its finest!

Drama will, along with the help of professionals, teach members of subcommittee and broader Drama society the inner workings of a production. This ranges from managing tickets at front of house, all the way to the lighting and sound involved with a show itself. They will then be put to the test by running a small fake show in order to practice their skills with lighting, sound, microphones, show photography/videography and front of house.

In collaboration with Speakeasy and Music Soc, we'll be holding our very own karaoke this coming Monday!

The theme is musicals, so our drama members should be well able to pull something out of their wheelhouse!

This week's event is a scriptwriting workshop with our friends from DCU Creative Writing!

Ever wanted to have a go at writing your own show but didn't know where to start? Some of our very own talented writers are on hand to offer you tips for writing your own script! Then, you'll get a chance to write a scene within 30 minutes which you'll be able to showcase in front of the rest of the workshop. You can showcase it in whichever way you feel most comfortable with; whether that's performing it solo, with some friends or simply pitching what your show would be like. Please bring a device that you would be comfortable with typing on if possible.

Join us in SA105 in the Stokes Building this Wednesday at 6:30pm for what is sure to be an evening of creativity and chaos!

At this event, Drama will announce it's six shows for the year, as well as other big events for the year such as the Cabaret and Drama Ball. We will be electing a new Tech Manager and First Year Rep to the committee. Members can be nominated for these positions, talk for a short period of time about why they would fit the role, and are then voted in on behalf of the whole society through anonymous voting.

Once we have finished the EGM portion of the night, we will then host an Open Mic. Members will have a chance to perform in front of other attendees in a casual environment. Using whatever equipment we have available, anyone can put their name forward and perform a range of acts, from singing and comedy routines to poetry recitals and monologues. We will also bring in our own instruments and allow them to be freely used amongst members for performances.

His memories of that night flood back: It is 1963, and Eddie and his friends decide to spend their night in a “dogfight”: who can find the ugliest girl in town and bring her to a party where she will be judged? But the girl Eddie finds had a profound effect on his life in the most unexpected way.

Written by Neil Simon, Olive invites her obsessively clean friend Florence to stay with her in her unkempt apartment after Florence has a tough time dealing with divorce. But the two friends have very different ideas about housekeeping and lifestyles, and when Olive organises a double-date with the Costazuela brothers, their differences come to a head and sparks fly.

DCU Drama presents: The Only Kristian (in Heaven)

DCU Drama presents: Asking for It

Emma O'Donovan's life is changed forever by a sickening act of violence, and the ensuing scrutiny that she experiences. Adapted for the stage by Meadhbh McHugh, in collaboration with Annabelle Comyn, "Asking for It" sheds an unshrinking light on the alarming reality of rape culture, sexism, and social media abuse in today's world.

‘Asking for It’ by Louise O’Neill is by arrangement with Nick Hern Books, and in aid of our charity partner, Dublin Rape Crisis Centre.

What would a new year be without an EGM? 

The DCU Drama EGM will be held on Thursday September 30th at 7pm. There, we will be giving you a sneak peak of what's to come this year, and announcing our 2021/22 season, including this year's six shows! We will also be electing three more committee members:

• First Year Rep

More information will be released shortly about the three positions up for election, so watch this space!

As well as this, we be voting on a change to the DCU Drama Constitution, which will affect the wording surrounding members production applications. More information about this can be found in our weekly email! It's gonna be a fun one!

The wait is finally over. DCU Drama is BACK with our first in-person event in 18 months: NEW MEMBERS MIXER! At the New Members Mixer you can welcome our newest members, get to know our 2021/22 committee, and reunite with friends. We have a lot of catching up to do, and a lot of new faces to introduce! There will also be fun and games throughout the night to help us start off the year on a high note! Come join us on Wednesday, September 22nd, at 5pm at the lawn stretch tent on Glasnevin Campus! We cannot wait to finally see you all again!!!

Important details! 

-Only members who have one year of experience on the committee can run for Chairperson. 

-Only members who have directed, produced, or stage managed a show or have one year of experience on the committee can run for Production Manager. 

-The role of First Year Rep will not be available to run for at this AGM. 

We will also be voting on some possible changes to the DCU Drama constitution.  

-The addition of the events subcommittee. 

-The recruitment of subcommittee groups via application rather than election. 

Lastly, if you are planning on running for a position, it is super important that you contact the current person holding that role. It is vital to gain an understanding of the position before running for it. The committee are more than happy to answer questions or talk about their roles, so make sure to get in touch. 

Being on the DCU Drama committee is an incredibly rewarding experience, so if you have even the slightest interest in a role, go for it!

To what lengths would you go to get your beloved pet back? Many people would go quite far in order to be reunited with their favourite pooch. But how far would you go for the reward…? Colin and Lewis push their own limits in pursuit of a high reward, nights on the town, and being able to pay rent. Things quickly get out of hand in this farcical comedy, filled with dastardly schemes and cover-ups!

We are delighted to announce that we will be hosting an extra special open mic night for both past and present DCU Drama members this Friday at 7pm!

DCU Drama has been operating for over thirty years and we want to take this opportunity to reconnect with the various people that have made it a home through the years!

EXCITING NEWS! 

We are super excited to announce that Chris Holland will be speaking with us on Zoom this Thursday at 8pm. 

The multi-talented Emma Cronly will be hosting the talk. 

Chris has been starring in West End musicals for over twenty years. He was first seen in the original production of "Miss Saigon" at the Theatre Royal, Drury Lane in 1993.

 Since then, Chris has appeared in a number of shows like "Les Miserables", "The Phantom of the Opera", and "Dirty Dancing". 

Chris is also a multi-award winning voice over and jingle singer, highly regarded for his work with TalkSport Radio. 

In 2013, Chris was awarded a Fellowship of the London College of Music. He is now a Vocal Coach at St. Andrew's College and Temple Carrig School.

This week, with DCU MPS, we will be hosting "Drama at the SwaMPS: Drama x MPS Shrektacular (Shrek 2)" - an exciting table read on Zoom! 

Starting at 7pm this Drama Wednesday, we will be splitting groups of six up to read the super funny dinner scene in Shrek 2!

This is sure to be a fun evening of laughs and gags, so pop in for a hilarious reinvention of the iconic Shrek 2!

Go loosen up those vocal chords because DCU Drama is BACK with a longing for some silly sing-songs! ?

This week, to launch the semester, we will be hosting a "back to school" open mic - so exciting! Starting at 7pm this Drama Wednesday, this is sure to be a super fun evening of singing and dancing! ? 

Semester 2 kicks off with DCU Drama auditions! To wrap up the 2020/21 season, we will be putting on 4 exciting shows - with 4 talented casts! That's where you come in! With such a diverse line-up, there is something for everyone! ?

The DCU Drama Panto is back, and this time - it's in cyberspace! Good ol' DCU, the bonds we form with the people we meet there really do feel like something magical! But what if there actually was a little magic going on in the background? Swapping the serene forests of Shakespeare’s classic play with the sticky floors of Nubar, "A Midwinter Night’s Dream" shows you just what chaos can happen when a fairy takes a whole bunch of pills and invades a college full of hormonal students. Featuring music, love triangles, and even a bike, you never know what might happen! ????

DCU Drama presents "Start Swimming", by arrangement with Nick Hern Books.

The contemporary play "Start Swimming", written by James Fritz, is a show about occupation and what power young people have to create change. It's an abstract piece that explores freedom, resistance, and revolution, via carefully choreographed spoken word. The show is made up of eight characters with nothing to go on but their basic instincts. One step away from disaster, there's only one thing left to do: start swimming. ??

DCU Drama presents "Renati: A Series of Monologues".

Taking inspiration from the Latin word meaning 'regeneration', our series of monologues is a new venture for the society. The production will be performed by twelve talented actors, split into three segments. The "Renati" team have picked pieces ranging from classical to contemporary, heartbreaking to hilarious, and they can't wait to bring these exciting stories to life! Incorporating so much of theatre and performing arts, this show is sure to have something for everyone! ?
