Speakeasy is one of DCU’s most exciting societies, known for its academic, charity and exclusive events. Whether you’re looking to improve your public speaking skills, secure an internship or graduate programme, or make some friends Speakeasy has it all!
Academic Events
As a communication-based society, we host insight & talks events with EY, which will enable you to learn more about the Internship and Graduate Programmes on offer. As well as this, we provide a CV, interview workshops by EY student recruiters for all of our Speakeasy members. Enabling you to have a chance of securing an internship with EY.
Social Events
Speakeasy gives you a reason to take a break from your hard day of studies and enjoy our fun and friendly events. We take pride in creating a strong community.
Speakeasy Comedy Night
Speakeasy Comedy Night is the perfect way to relax and have a laugh with friends. Last year saw the renowned Tony Cantwell take to the stage for an unforgettable night full of singing, cans, and laugher. This year’s act will be promised to be bigger and better than ever.
Guest Speakers
Speakeasy prides itself on inviting the best influencers around Ireland to our Speakeasy guest events. This year we will have the famous Blindboy from the Rubber Bandits to talk to us as part of his live podcast tour and more importantly, all Speakeasy members are exclusively invited. YAP Student Podcasting Competition
YAP is the first third level student podcasting competition in Ireland sponsored by EY, Newstalk and Off The Ball. We find the best student podcasters in Ireland in the categories of:
The winners of each category win a cash prize and features on Newstalk national radio.
If podcasting isn’t your thing then join the All-Ireland YAP Tour where we will be travelling to all universities campus’ in Ireland to promote YAP by day and going out by night. This will be a fun way to socialise with members in locations around Ireland.
BESK Competition
BESK is an All-Ireland public speaking competition sponsored by EY. We search for the best third level public speaker in Ireland. The final is held in a high profile venue with the overall winner last year get a fully paid internship at EY.
The Spoof
Want to have a laugh in a fun and friendly environment while improving your public speaking ability? Well ‘The Spoof’ is the perfect place for you. At ‘The Spoof’ you select a random topic from a hat and discuss that topic for 90 seconds to try to win the audience over. Our topics will be sure to push you out of your comfort zone.
Charity Events
Passion Project
Passion Project is an inspiring event where you can learn new skills as students voice their passion. This is a great event to meet new people with the same passions as well as discovering what you are really passionate about in life. The best passion project on the night gets to select what charity of the funds raised on the night go towards.
