Location: EngSoc Common Room / Dublin CityMeeting: Engineering Society Common Room, DCUThe Barry Hunt is a very fun Engsoc event, where the chairperson, Barry, will be “hunted” by the society members and helped by the First Year Rep, around Dublin City. Every 30 minutes, the chairperson will send a picture of themselves in their location into the Engineering Society WhatsApp community to show the members where they are at that time. At the same time, the chairperson will post a riddle to help describe where they are to people who don’t immediately recognise the location from the picture. In order to compete, members must enter in teams of 3-5. This is to eliminate the risk of people getting lost or being unable to contact each other if one person’s phone dies. Each player must also wear a red T-Shirt, Hoodie, Jacket or Hat in order to make them easy to find in the event they get separated from their group. All the competitors will meet at the Engineering Society Common Room, where two committee members, who will be wearing engineering society hoodies and red hats to make them easy to find will be waiting to take down the names of competitors and their team’s name. Each player from each team will also need to show that their phones have at least 50% charge and the person who has the most charge on their phone will have to take the phone numbers of the committee members so that they can call them if they get lost. When (and if) a team finds the chairperson, Barry, they must “tag” him in order to win! This team will then be given their prize at the end of the event, back at the Engineering Society Common Room. The event will continue and their will be prizes for 2nd and 3rd place as well. |

Many call us the social side of engineering in DCU. We provide an escape for students from their high impact engineering life and also show non-engineering students how fun engineering can be!
During the year, we run loads of events from workshops, coffee mornings, social nights, seminars, trips away and anything else we can think of. We aim to cater for all interests so if you have any ideas or suggestions, we are open ears. Come and talk to us at one of our events or send us a message on any of our social media platforms.
