About Mental Health Society

DCU's Mental Health Society works towards promoting positive attitudes and removing negative stereotypes and stigmas around Mental Health. We aim to provide students of all backgrounds and ages with a welcoming and encouraging environment.

The Mental Health Society works alongside multiple other societies throughout the year to plan events - one recurring collaborative event is the Hangover Hub with The Sober Society. As a society, we plan and carry out many events throughout the year - from coffee/tea mornings to informative talks about Mental Health and our biggest event of them all; Craicin’ Up. Craicin’ Up is the Mental Health Societies biggest event every year. The event is usually held in February/March of semester 2. This event is a charity gig with local talents ranging from bands, solo musicians, spoken word artists and stand up comedy. Each year as a society we choose a new Mental Health charity in which Craicin’ Up will be in aid of.

We have teamed up with DCU's counselling service over the past 2 years in order to set up our own peer support group called The Hub. The committee members each year since have been trained to give their time to The Hub and to support the students who attend The Hub in the best way they can.
